On 1 July 2024, an Air Europa Boeing 787-9, operating as Air Europa Flight 045, on a scheduled international passenger flight from Madrid to Montevideo, experienced strong turbulence. The aircraft later diverted to Greater Natal International Airport, Brazil.[1] 40 passengers were injured, with ten hospitalized.[2]

The aircraft was a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner registered as EC-MTI operated by Air Europa. At the time of the accident, the plane was carrying 345 people.[citation needed]

Accident

While cruising above the Atlantic Ocean at 36,000 ft, the plane was rocked by severe turbulence, which caused passengers to hit the ceiling, as well as a man who was pulled towards the roof. The plane was diverted to Natal, Brazil.[3]
