From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Aircall is a French firm, founded in 2014, specializing in the design of cloud-based telephony solutions for businesses..[1].

History[edit]

Aircall was created in 2014 within the eFounders[2] startup studio by Olivier Pailhes, Jonathan Anguelov, Pierre-Baptiste Béchu and Xavier Durand. The company provides a cloud-based[3] phone system for business use (primarily SME and mid-tier firms). In June 2015, Aircall secured an initial investment pool of $800,000, then a further $2.75m investment in January 2016 followed by an $8m funding round in September 2016 led by investors Balderton Capital, FundersClub and FJLabs[4].

In 2016, the company opened an office in New York to establish its presence on the US market[5]. In 2017, Aircall tripled its turnover, asserting itself as a viable alternative to traditional phone systems[6].

In 2018, Aircall secured a further $29m in capital raised from Draper Esprit, NextWorld Capital and Newfund. In April 2020, Aircall worked with the French government and Salesforce to launch a website aiming to combat digital illiteracy[7]. In May 2020, Aircall raised $65m in funds with DTCP, Adam Street, eFounders, Draper Esprit, Balderton and NextWorld, bringing its funding total to over $100m[8].

In May 2021, the firm announced plans to double in size, recruiting 300 people to bolster its research and development unit and its international expansion, focused on growth across Europe and into the Asia-Pacific[9]. To widen its portfolio, Aircall planned to integrate SMS-type messaging services and video calling. In June 2021, Aircall announced it had raised $120M in Series D funding, led by Goldman Sachs Asset Management. Aircall is now valued above $1bn and has become the sixteenth French unicorn[10].

Activity[edit]

Aircall provides cloud-based telephony solutions for businesses, removing the need for fixed desk phones or PABX systems. Its technology is based on Voice over IP (VoIP) – or the WebRTC protocol to be more precise – meaning it can be used on any web-connected device. Aircall's own VoIP technology includes features common to PBX systems, like interactive voice response (IVR) and automatic call distribution (ACD), but these features can be configured and personalized by individual business users. This technology easily integrates business tools such as Salesforce, HubSpot, Zendesk and Shopify into its software[11]

Governance[edit]

Three of the co-founders, Olivier Pailhes, Jonathan Anguelov and Pierre-Baptiste Béchu, are respectively Chief Executive Officer, Chief Operating Officer and Director of Platform and Infrastructure[12]

Locations[edit]

Aircall currently has offices in Paris, New York, Madrid and Sydney[13].
