Ajay Pandey 'Sahaab'( Sahaab is an Arabic word meaning cloud ) is one of the most prolific and popular Urdu poets of the modern generation whose poetry has been composed and sung by all legends of Ghazals and other popular singers like Jagjit Singh, Pankaj Udhas[1][2][circular reference] , Anup Jalota, Bhupinder Mitali, Talat Aziz, Chandan Das, Rajesh Singh, Sudeep Banerjee, Ghulam Abbas Khan, Shishir Parkhie, Anuradha Paudwal, Suresh Wadekar, Rekha Bhardwaj, Amrita Chatterjee, Penaz Masani, Archita Bhattacharya, Diwakar Meena and many others.[3]

He has many Ghazal albums to his credit beginning with ONCE MORE of T-SERIES in 2009[4], ROOMANIYAT from MYSTICA MUSIC 2010 sung by Shishir Parkhie which was nominated for the GLOBAL INDIAN MUSIC AWARDS GIMA with the likes of Jagjit Singh and Gulzar, SENTIMENTAL with Pankaj Udhas, KHAMOSHI KI AAWAZ with Pankaj Udhas, MADHOSH with Pankaj Udhas, ROOH E GHAZAL with Ustad Ghulam Abbas Khan, DHADKAN DHADKAN with Sudeep Banerjee, MAIN ISHQ ME TUMHAARE with Amrita Chatterjee. He has also written the very popular theme song of India's grandest Ghazal festival KHAZANA.

He has authored two collections of Urdu poetry UMMEED (2015) and MAIN URDU BOLUN (2019) which was released in the iconic Nehru Centre London, UK[5]. He has penned lyrics for a movie Scapegoat also. He is the main poet for the worldwide chain of Urdu Ghazal Concerts Alfaaz aur Awaaz, in which his Ghazals and songs are composed and sung by Rajesh Singh. He has received many awards like Sahir Samman, Chhattisgarh Gaurav Samman, National Smile Award, etc.

Apart from writing very popular Ghazals and songs, he has excelled in other fields also. He topped the coveted UPSC CIVIL SERVICE EXAMINATION as a Hindi Medium candidate and also topped the PSC of undivided Madhya Pradesh. He is presently working as Commissioner and Additional Director General GST for the Chhattisgarh state.[6]
