History[edit]

The band was founded in 1989. The name of the band comes from the syllables of the first bands of Zenon Martyniuk, Mariusz Anikiej and Zenobiusz Gula — Akord and Centrum.[4] The band rehearsed in the building of the Military Complementary Command in Bielsk Podlaski, and in exchange for lending a place to play, they performed at military ceremonies. In 1991, they released their debut tape, simply entitled Akcent 1.[5] Soon after, Akcent suspended its activities, and Martyniuk then founded the band Ex-Akcent, with which he recorded three albums: Szczęśliwy czas (1991), Piękna niedziela (1992) and Kolędy (1992).[6] At that time, Anikiej toured with Marek Majewski as the band Marinero. Both formations ended their activity in 1993 after the reactivation of Akcent.[7] Shortly after returning to the stage, the band released two cassettes: Dajcie mi gitarę and Słuchajcie chłopcy, on which they placed, among others, with the song "Stary Cygan", with which they reached the top ten of the nationwide Radio Katowice plebiscite for the Hit of the Year 1993. In 1994, they released the album Życie to jest moments, from which the hits "Mała figlarka", "Sounds of strings" and the title hit come from. A year later, their next album was released. The spell of love, which they promoted with music videos for the songs "It's me" and "Lullaby for the beloved." Also in 1995, they played concerts in the United States for the first time for American Polonia. In 1996, they released an album called Dance, with which they moved away from disco polo sounds in favor of dance music. They promoted the album with music videos for the songs "Daleko od gwiazd" and "Całuj mnie." In 1997, they released two albums: Oczarowałaś mnie, from which the hits "Ostatni most", "Obraz moja" and "Siwy konu" come from, and Gold, containing nine Akcent songs in new arrangements and the premiere song "Psotny Wiatr." At that time, they also went on a short concert tour around Greece for the Polish community there, they also recorded the song "Pieśń o pokoju" with the band Lider.

In July 1998, they received the main prize for the song "Wyznanie" at the 3rd National Festival of Disco Polo and Dance in Ostróda. In the same year, they released an album entitled Wyznanie, which they promoted with the songs: "Wyspa szczęśliwych snów", "Zostań tu" and "Królowa nocy" with the title single. At that time, Anikiej left the band and decided to emigrate to Belgium. His place in the band was first taken by Artur Boroń, in this line-up they recorded and released the album Memories in 1999, which they promoted with music videos for the songs "Summer is to love" and "It's raining" and for the title song.
