Akhil Sathyan is an Indian film director, screenwriter, and editor who works in the Malayalam film industry. He is known for directing character-driven films with elements of humour. He is the son of filmmaker Sathyan Anthikad and the twin brother of director Anoop Sathyan.[1]

Career

Akhil Sathyan began his career by making short films and working as an assistant director. His short film That's My Boy (2015), which he wrote and directed, marked his early work as a filmmaker. He made his feature film directorial debut with Pachuvum Athbutha Vilakkum (2023), starring Fahadh Faasil. The film received positive attention for its narrative style and performances,[2][3] and audiences noted its performances.

In 2025, Akhil directed Sarvam Maya, a supernatural comedy film starring Nivin Pauly and Riya Shibu. The film was released on 25 December 2025 and achieved commercial success at the box office.[4] In interviews, Akhil Sathyan stated that certain emotional aspects of the film were inspired by real-life experiences shared by people close to him.[5]

Apart from directing, Akhil has also worked as a writer. He wrote the story for Hridayapoorvam (2025), which was directed by Sathyan Anthikad and starred Mohanlal.[6]
