Personal Life[edit]

Akhil Shahani was born in Mumbai, India to Maya & Kishore Shahani. He studied MBA from the Kellogg Graduate School of Management in Chicago & completed his PhD from the University of Liverpool, where his thesis was in Student Employability.

Akhil’s family has been in the education space for over 100 years, right from the days of the founder of Shahani group, Dr. Thadomal Shahani, who was the Principal of one of the prominent colleges in Sindh before Partition. However, as these colleges were affiliated to the local state University, Akhil found their education system too much driven by rote learning and not effective in giving students the job skills needed by modern corporates. Hence, he founded the Thadomal Shahani Centre for Management (TSCFM) in 2010 to build the careers of management students via industry driven courses affiliated to Universities in the UK.[3]

Akhil is the recipient of many awards for his work in education like the Jamnalal Bajaj Award, Bharat Shiromani Award, PIMR Outstanding Educationist Award, Rex Karamveer Chakra Gold Award, the Bharat Gaurav Award and the Indira Gandhi Priyadarshini Award among others. He is a regular speaker at conferences and has been extensively profiled in the media.[4]
