Akil (c. 2013—18 March 2015) was a German Shepherd police dog. He was killed during the siege to end a hostage situation at the Bardo National Museum in Tunis, Tunisia.

He guided the special forces into the Museum, where one of the gunmen shot him dead. When he was carried out afterwards, the crowd cheered and clapped.[1]

Tunisian President Beji Caid Essebsi said of Akil "It's a victim we don't talk about but it's a heavy loss". A member of the Interior Ministry added that "Without him, there may have been many more deaths."[1]

French-language magazine Jeune Afrique noted that through Akil's sacrifice, he was praised in Tunisia despite the cultural taboo around dogs in the Islamic world.[2]
