Akira Otoishi (音 石 明 Otoishi Akira) is a fictional character in the Japanese manga series JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, written and illustrated by Hirohiko Araki. He was one of the main antagonists of the series' fourth story arc, Diamond is Unbreakable, Akira first appears as a rogue guitarist and enemy of Jotaro Kujo, Josuke Higashikata and personally Okuyasu Nijimura wielding the Stand (a physical manifestation of his fighting spirit) named Red Hot Chili Pepper, with electrokinetic powers passed on by Keicho Nijimura's ability.
Akira returns as a supporting character in Thus Spoke Kishibe Rohan, and to the surprise of fans, he is a fan of the character Rohan Kishibe's work.
Conception[edit]
Akira was inspired by Kenji Ohtsuki, a Japanese rock musician and award-winning writer, having similar wavy hair and a scar on the left side of the face. Araki probably chose him as a base after he interviewed Ohtsuki about his love of Horror movies, which the two bonded over. But his first name "Akira" was inspired in the 1988 manga Akira, except his surname "Otoishi (音石)" means "sound of rock" which could reference his love of Rock music. His uniform was also referenced by other rockers, Akira wears a black jacket with the right sleeve spelled "AC" and the left sleeve "DC", along with a vest, tights and boots, and notably an electric guitar with designs ranging from the Fender Telecaster to the Fender Stratocaster. Araki also drew the "AC" and "DC" emblems on his coat cuffs as a reference not only to the band of the same name, but also to the band's namesake, "alternating current / direct current", which refers to types of currents. electrical devices.
Appearances[edit]
In JoJo's Bizarre Adventure[edit]
Diamond is Unbreakable[edit]
Otoishi first appears as one of the people Keicho Nijimura shot with his bow and arrow while trying to find a Stand user capable of killing his mutant father, having the good fortune to develop a Stand, named it "Red Hot Chili Pepper", after discovering this he became interested in Stands and their creation, later he watched and tormented several people, among them Josuke Higashikata, while trying to improve in the use of his guitar skills.Otoishi makes a phone call to Jotaro at his hotel, leaving a warning to leave Morioh adding that he has killed Keicho, has the Bow and Arrow, and that he won't disturb them if they don't disturb him. Attacking Jotaro for deducing he is a student, Otoishi makes his Stand explode the phone in Jotaro's face; Archery theft causes Jotaro Kujo to mark him as a threat and look for a way to find his person's location, as his Stand allows him to interact with other people from a distance on account of the electricity.
During their next confrontation, Otoishi himself personally appeared to assassinate Joseph Joestar, introducing himself to Josuke and Koichi Hirose. Akira believed that Josuke was an easy opponent, underestimating his junior, which led him to make mistakes and suffer injuries. Otoishi eventually decides to empower Chili Pepper with all of Morioh City's electrical supply, resulting in a huge increase in power and speed and allowing him to overtake Crazy Diamond with little trouble. Josuke tried to snag the Stand in a rubber tire, but Chili Pepper makes a hole. Otoishi's overconfidence was the reason for his defeat, when the air from the tire pushed him into the ocean along with the Chili Pepper, dismantling the Stand and bringing him near death; even apparently losing consciousness as he got up, Otoishi made one last effort to get into the boat Joseph was on, disguising himself as a Speedwagon Foundation operator, Okuyasu acting as Joseph's bodyguard, saw this and prepared to attack him. , but Otoishi confused him by saying that the other operator of the SPW Foundation was the real Otoishi, Okuyasu not used to working his brain, decided he would hit both of them and luckily hit Otoishi first. Otoishi was later put on trial with a sentence of three years behind bars, without bail or parole for the things he had stolen. It was there that Jotaro threatened him, saying that if he tried to escape, he and Josuke would chase him to the ends of the earth and finish him off, Akira later reveals to Jotaro that he shot the Bug-Eaten mouse, but hides the fact that he actually shot two mice (Bug-Eaten and No Bug-Eaten).[1][2]
Thus Spoke Kishibe Rohan[edit]
Otoishi, newly released from prison, asks for an autograph for Rohan along with Tamami Kobayashi, claiming to be a big fan of his, however both are harshly reprimanded by Rohan's editor, Minoru Kagamari, who tells them that Rohan is busy at the moment, but Rohan, for his part, berates his editor for treating him like a "slow mangaka who can't sign autographs" before signing autographs for the two of them with coffee using a special drip technique.[3]
