Akita Mining College (秋田鉱山専門学校, Akita Kōzan Senmon Gakkō) was a Japanese specialized school (higher education institution) and school of mines in Akita. It was reorganised into Akita University during the post-war reform of the school system.
History[edit]
The Akita Mining School was established in 1910 by imperial charter on the model of the Freiberg School of Mines in Germany.[1] It was established with donations from Denzaburo Fujita (Fujita Zaibatsu), Hisaya Iwasaki (Mitsubishi Zaibatsu) and Toranosuke Furukawa (Furukawa Zaibatsu), who had a mine in Akita Prefecture.
In 1949, it was reorganised as Akita University.[1]
