Akke Rahman born Aklakur Rahman, also known as the ‘Bengali Mountaineer’ is a record breaking mounting climber from Oldham, United Kingdom. An 'amateur' mountaineer who has scaled Europe's highest peak Mount Elbrus - breaking a record just days after recovering from COVID-19[1]. Akke Rahman has conquered Mount Kilimanjaro[2], Mount Blanc and Mount Elbrus spanning over a few months[3].
Early life and expeditions
Akke was born in Bangladesh but grew up in Oldham, England from the age of one. As a child, he was very athletic and a good competitor on sports day. Football was his main sport in early life, but it wasn’t until around the age of 12 or 13, he realised he was very good at athletics. He joined the local athletics club ‘Oldham & Royton Harriers’, where he ran 100m sprints and triple jump, his favourite speciality. At the age of 14, he accomplished a personal best of 11.5 seconds in 100m sprint. Winning intermediate boys’ triple jump championship of Greater Manchester led to representation of the county at English Schools. This boosted his confidence which led to harder training. Upon leaving school, the athletics track moved from being quite far to very far and as a young teen it was extremely difficult without family support to make it to training. With the added feeling of being free of school ties and wanting to do "whatever", He became distracted. Consequently, athletics came to a halt. During that time, a local theatre company approached him to join some of their workshops. After attending some sessions, He enjoyed it and went onto perform several stage shows in theatre all around the UK. Most notable ‘Just Before the Rain’, a stylized depiction of the race riots and consequences of the race riots of Oldham in 2001. Alongside this, He continued his education through college and university.
In June 2019, He did his first climb at a weight of 87.5kg, he reached showdown summit vid Pyg Track in 1 hour and 57 minutes. Snowdon became his home ground for practice on several occasions. An expedition to Elbrus was booked, to prepare for this Akke tackled Ben Nevis and Scafell Pike. These were completed as a warm-up, leading to the “Big One”.
After an expedition to Mount Elbrus in September 2019 was cut short due to bad weather and the possibility of frostbite to the nose Akke was left distraught and in pieces. He said he sacrificed a lot in preparation and was in the best shape of his life.
After a long winter of training and recovery from a grade 2 LCL strain Akke made preparations for another expediton to Europe's Highest Peak, Elbrus Part 2. Unfortunately this had to be pushed back due to COVID19.
In July 2020 Akke Rahman set off on a rampage of two continents in which he climbed Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa Highest Peak in 4 days. He summited Kilimanjaro on 22 July 2020 and even went for a Safari drive to Tarangire National Park before Making his way to Chamonix in France in an attempt to summit Mont Blanc. Akke Rahman completed the climb overnight and stood on top of Mont Blanc on 29 July 2020, 7 days after conquering Mount Kilimanjaro.

Charity Work
The first Elbrus climb raised money to build 10 tube wells in Bangladesh for which he raised the money himself through social media vlogs. Recently using the same stream, his friends and some cash donations he managed to raise over £8,500 for a local girls school in his home town, Oldham.
Upon return from Kilimanjaro and Mont Blanc, he was eating and saw news about the disaster in Lebanon, Akke knew there and then he had to do something to help and dedicated his second Elbrus expedition to this cause.
