Akram Safa is a Lebanese businessman and movie producer, born in 1958.

He is the co-founder of Privinvest Group[1] with his brother Iskandar Safa.

In 2018, he coproduced the Cannes Film Festival award winning movie, Capharnaüm,[2] directed by the Lebanese filmmaker Nadine Labaki.

Early life[edit]

Akram Safa spent his youth in Beirut until he obtained his bachelor's degree, after which he joined the United States in the late 1970s and joined Ohio State University (OSU) for a Bachelor's degree in civil engineering. He then joined the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and obtained his Master's degree in Civil Engineering.

Career[edit]

From 1978 to 1983, he was in charge of the extension of the construction of Dahran Airport (Saudi Arabia).

In 1983, he managed the road rehabilitation projects in Lebanon (236 km) for the construction and development company ALMABANI.

Since 1995 he has been co-founder and CEO of PIDev Holding[3], which invests in Europe and the Middle East in innovation projects in the fields of telecoms, new technologies, renewable energies, media and real estate.

Film production[edit]

Akram Safa started his career in film production4 as Executive Producer of Capernaum, a Lebanese dramatic film written and directed by Nadine Labaki and released in 2018[4]. The film is in official selection at the 2018 Cannes Film Festival. Three times awarded, he receives the Jury Prize, the Ecumenical Jury Prize and the Citizenship Prize. The film was nominated for the Golden Globe Awards in December 2018.

Other activities[edit]

It is also present as a shareholder in the French publicly traded biotechnology company, AB Science (AB.PA). He is also a shareholder and the Canadian biotechnology company Neptune Wellness Solutions (NEPT) listed on the NASDAQ-US.

Miscellaneous[edit]

Akram Safa is President of the Marist Brothers-Champville Sports Club, known in particular for its performances in sports such as basketball (4 players play on the Lebanese national team)[5], athletics, tennis and martial arts.
