Akron Beacon Journal Player of the Year Award
The Akron Beacon Journal (ABJ) Player of the Year award was given to a high school athlete in the the 5 county area (Summit, Portage, Stark, Medina and Wayne) between the years 1951 and 2017. The athlete was selected by a panel of sports writers from the paper and was typically given to a football and boys basketball player at the end of each respective season. Some years multiple players were selected for a given sport. An award for girls basketball was eventually added.
