Al-Ameen College of Law is a professional undergraduate college in Bangalore, Karnataka, India.[1] It was established in the year 1988[2] as a center for academic excellence achievement in the field of law. The campus is located at Hosur road in Bangalore. It is under the aegis of Al-Ameen Educational Society which was established in the year 1966 and one of the biggest minority education society in India.[3] Al-Ameen College of Law is affiliated with Karnataka State Law University.[4] Al-Ameen College of Law is recognized by the Bar Council of India.[5] Al-Ameen College of Law is one of the recognized college by University of Cambridge.[6] The National Assessment and Accreditation Council has conferred B++ grade to the institution in the year 2016.[7]

Al-Ameen Educational Society was started in 1966 to meet education needs in the city and of the minority Muslim community.[8] Dr.Mumtaz Ahmed Khan is the founder of Al-Ameen Educational Society[9] Mumtaz Ahmed Khan. The college campus located at Hosur Road, opposite Lalbagh Main Gate, Bangalore having 2 parts covering an area of nearly 6.35 acres. In the first part, there are 6 colleges, they are, Al-Ameen Arts, Science and Commerce Degree College, Al-Ameen Institute of Management Studies, Al-Ameen Institute of Information Sciences, Al-Ameen College of Pharmacy, Al-Ameen College of Law and Al-Ameen College of Education. In the second part, primary and higher Secondary school & a Pre-University College. The total strength of both campuses is more than 5000.[10]

About Founder[edit]

Dr Mumtaz Ahmed Khan is an Indian humanitarian known for founding the Al-Ameen Educational Society and its corresponding colleges.[11][12] Khan earned MBBS degree from Madras University, Channai and became a general practitioner. In 1966, at the age of 31, he founded the Al-Ameen Educational Society.[13]

Prof. Waseem Khan.M.I is the principal of Al-Ameen College of Law, Bangalore.[14] He is one of the youngest Principal in India. He was a lecturer of Al-Ameen College of Law and in 2009 he appointed as the Principal of the institution. Waseem Khan was born on 26 February 1982. He completed his primary education from Government High School Limbe, Cameroon in 1990.

Al-Ameen College of Law is offering 3 years LL.B and 5 years B.A, LL.B courses.[15] The college is providing hostel facility in Ayesha Ameena Towers, Bangalore, Karnataka for its students.

Library[edit]

Al-Ameen College of Law is providing a vast library facility for its students. It has a collection of more than 100 books for each subjects for the convenience of using. The library is updated from time to time with latest books and periodicals to meet the needs of both the students as well as teaching staff. Law reports in library are All India Reporter,[16] Supreme Court Cases,[17] Karnataka Acts and Rules, Consumer Protection Judgments, Divorce and Matrimonial Cases, Indian Law Reports(Karnataka), Indian Bar Review of BCIT and Orient Journal of Law and Social Sciences.

College is having subscription of seven more news papers in different languages (The Hindu, Times of India, Malayala Manorama, Vijaya Karnataka, Deccan Herald, Daily Salar and Bangalore Mirror) and more than 10 magazines( The Practical Lawyer,[18] India Today, Out Look, Lawyers Update and Eastern Crescent, etc.).

Sports[edit]

Al-Ameen College of Law has one Cricket team. Students as well as faculties are part of team. Coaching for the Cricket team is provided by the college. Also many indoor games are conducting every year and honoring to the winner with prizes.

Achievements[edit]

Guest Lecture by T.P.M Ibrahim Khan Asst. Solicitor General of India,[19][20] Senior Counsel High Court of Kerala, Senior standing Counsel for Railways, Food Corporation of India,[21][22][23] Employees State Insurance Corporation[24][25][26] and National Investigating Agency(NIA),[27][28][29] addressed the students of Al-Ameen College of law at college on 23 October 2010, on " Scope, Ambity and Limitations of the Legal Profession and Professional Ethics". The students of Al-Ameen College of Law participated in Model Parliament competition organised by the Lehri Law Academy on 24 October 2010. The Students of Al-Ameen College of Law won the Inter-College Moot Court Competition organised by Garden City Law College, Bangalore. The Students of Al-Ameen College of Law won the Inter-College Fashion Show Competition organised by Garden City Law College, Bangalore. In the year 2012 - 2013, Child Rights and You (www.cry.org) organaised one cultural fest named as 'Expressions'in BHS Higher Educational Society, Al-Ameen College of Law was the overall champion in the competitions in that fest.[30] Students of Al-Ameen College of Law participated in 1st Magna Carta National Essay Writing Competition, 2012 organised by M.S. Ramaiah College of Law[31][32]

Legal Literary Club[edit]

Al-Ameen College of Law has celebrated the National Legal Services day on 9 November 2010 on the same day Legal Literacy Club was inaugurated by Smt. Indrakala B.S, Principal Civil and Session Judge, Bangalore City and Chairman Bangalore Legal Services Authority[33][34] and H.B Ravindranath, Chief Metropolitan Magistrate and Secretary Bangalore Legal Services Authority.[35]

NSS Unit[edit]

Al-Ameen College of Law has one active NSS unit. Al-Ameen College of Law jointly with Karnataka Legal Service Authority and Karnataka Cancer Society has organized free legal aid and legal awareness program and free Medical aid at Goripalaya, Karnataka on 1 November 2011.[36] Al-Ameen Law College and Karnataka Legal Services Authority jointly organised a free medical and legal aid camp on 1 November at BBMP Pre-university College, Opposite Jagajeevanramnagar Police Station, Bangalore.[37]

Debate[edit]

Al-Ameen College of Law organised a debate on "fixing up of age limit on educational courses is valid or not" on 25 August 2010. Great Indian Debaters has organised the debate on 21 October 2010 among the students of Al-Ameen College of Law on the topic "Whether fake encounters are the best way to eliminate the anti-social elements or not".[38][39] Al-Ameen College of Law organised state level Inter College Debate competition on 18 October 2012.[40]
