Al-Hussein College Mosque

College Al-hussein Mosque is in the Jordanian capital of Amman, located in Jabal Al-Hussein, on Khalid bin Waleed Street. The mosque was founded in the reign of King Hussein Bin Talal in 1971.

The original mosque covered an area of 130 square meters; in 1981 it was expanded to 350 square meters.

Naming

The name comes from the Al Hussein Secondary School located next to it, founded in 1949.

Location

The mosque is located in Jabal Al-Hussein, on Khalid bin Waleed Street.

It serves many people as students, schools, universities and teachers; because the mosque mediates a schools and universities area, it is the most important school located next to Al Hussein Secondary School, which was named after the mosque, which is one of the oldest schools and organizations in Amman, and the most important university located around Amman University College, which is nearly 100 meters away, and is one of the oldest institutes and organizations in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, where the college was founded in 1951.

The mosque is located in an elevated area, from which one can see the minaret of Mount Joufeh, and the Citadel, and Jabal Al, and high-rise buildings, and it experiences snowfall every year.

Construction

The mosque was built in the reign of King Hussein Bin Talal in 1971.

The original area of the mosque, (130 square meters) could accommodate 130 worshipers; after being expanded in 1981 to 350 square meters, it could contain almost 400 worshipers.

Mosque sections

The Mosque consists of three sections:

Section I

The main interior section of the mosque (area of 130 square meters) and can accommodate one hundred and thirty worshipers and is the original section of the mosque. The five daily prayers, the sermon and the Friday prayers are held here. Men shave and learn the Koran here. This section contains the altar built of ancient stone, with the inscription (and mosques God, do not let anyone with God).

Section II

A Koran learning center was founded in 2004, by the imam of the mosque, Sheikh Mohammed al-Haj. It has an area of 60 square meters and can accommodate sixty worshipers, where Iftars during Ramadan are held in the holy month of Ramadan, and workshops to learn the Koran are also held.

Section III

It is the outer section, the largest in this mosque, with an area of 150 square meters, and can accommodate one hundred and sixty worshipers where Friday prayers are held when the number of worshipers increases.

Mosque facilities

Mtodi

The mosque's Mtodi was restored in 2010 under the current imam of the mosque, Sheikh Mohammed al-Haj and covers an area of approximately 20 square meters.

Bathrooms

They were restored in 2011, with an area of 30 square meters.

Library

In 1982, Imam al-Haj Bashir al-Kilani founded a 50 square meter private library on the second floor of the old mosque containing thousands of books, which hosts seminars and religious lectures.

Minaret of the mosque

The mosque's minaret rises to a height of 30 meters above the ground, built of old stone and with a staircase inside to climb to the top. From it, one can see many areas in the capital, Amman; on the eastern side one can see Mount palaces, while the western side overlooks Jabal Amman, and Jabal Al, and Al Abdali, and from the northern side one can see Jabal Al-Nuzha, and Jabal Al Hussein, but from the south side one can see Mount Joufeh, and the Citadel.

Mosque activities

Social Committee

There are social committees involving people in the mosque's joys and sorrows, led by the mosque's imam, Sheikh Mohammed al-Hajj.

Eid prayers

Every year, prayers and a sermon for Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha, take place in the mosque arena (five thousand square meters) which can accommodate five thousand worshipers.
