Al-Rahmah School (ARS) is a K-12 Islamic school located in Northern Catonsville, in Baltimore County, Maryland, run by the Islamic Society of Baltimore. The school was founded on September 1, 1987, and started with around 27 students.[1]
History
In 1982, the Islamic Society of Baltimore purchased eight acres of land, and construction on Masjid Al-Rahmah finished in 1984. The school was established three years later on September 1, 1987, with just 27 students. A cafeteria, computer lab, gymnasium, and additional classrooms were added in 1996.[2]
President Barack Obama's Visit
On February 3, 2016, President Barack Obama visited Masjid Al-Rahmah, which was his first presidential visit to a U.S. mosque.[3] Students were invited to listen to his historic 45-minute speech.[4] Afterwards, he greeted students and community members in the school's gymnasium.
