Al Hamra is a real estate development and investment company in the United Arab Emirates, headquartered in Ras Al Khaimah, which operates across hospitality, tourism, retail, and real estate sectors.
Corporate affairs
Sheikh Khalid Bin Saud Bin Saqr Al Qasimi is the chairman of Al Hamra and Benoy Kurien is the CEO of the Al Hamra group of companies.[1][2]
Projects
Residential
The Al Hamra Village in Ras Al Khaimah was developed with a cost of $1.9bn, and has gone through four phases of development since its launch in 2004.[3][4] It covers a 77 million sq. ft. area and includes an 18-hole championship golf course, a marina and hotels including the Waldorf Astoria Ras Al Khaimah, the Ritz-Carlton Al Hamra Beach Ras Al Khaimah.[5]
The project also includes the residential units: Bayti Homes, The Royal Breeze Residences, Marina Residences, Golf Apartments, and Bayti Premium.[6] Bayti Homes range in size from 2,785 sq. ft. to 7,524 sq. ft. It has received the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification by the US Green Building Council (USGBC) for incorporating smart technologies for improved energy efficiency.[7][8][9]
Bayti Villas, a sustainable and energy efficient residential project at Al Hamra Village was completed in 2016.[10][not in citation given]
Hospitality
The Waldorf Astoria resort in Ras Al Khaimah is Waldorf Astoria's first branch in the UAE, owned by Al Hamra and operated by Hilton.[citation needed]
The Hilton Al Hamra Beach & Golf Resort opened in 2014.[11]
The Ritz-Carlton Ras Al Khaimah is the second luxury resort of the Ritz-Carlton brand in Ras Al Khaimah, and the fifth in the United Arab Emirates.[12] The agreement between the Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company and Al Hamra took place in 2016 and the hotel was launched in 2017.[13]
Al Hamra International Exhibition and Conference Centre (AHIECC) opened in 2019 and covers over 48,000 sq. ft. A prefabricated construction was followed for quick development, which allowed only 120,000-manhours to be used.[14] It has been recognized as the first safe MICE (meeting, incentive, convention & event) facility in the region by Bureau Veritas.[15][16][17]
Malls
Manar Mall, opened in 2000, went through an expansion with an investment of $125 million, increasing from 27,000 sqm to 55,000 sqm, and adding retail and F&B outlets.[18] In 2020, Manar Mall opened its 10,000 sqm waterfront promenade.[citation needed]
The Al Hamra Mall was developed at a total cost of more than $72 million covering an area of 290,600 sq.ft. in 2010.[19][not in citation given]
Leisure
Al Hamra Golf Course was opened in 2007.[citation needed] This 18-hole golf club is a par-72 championship covers 66,000 sq. ft. The Al Hamra Golf Club was designed by Peter Harradine and includes a 70-bay grass driving range.[20][21] The Al Hamra Marina and Yacht Club includes a 200-berth facility for yachts and motor vessels of up to 200 ft.[22][23] The clubhouse where events and activities are hosted also serves as a co-working space.[24][25][26]
Awards and recognition
In 2015, Al Hamra Real Estate Development was given six awards at the Arabian Property Awards: one in the 'Hotel Architecture' and 'Mixed-Use Architecture' categories for Waldorf Astoria Hotel, another in the 'Retail Architecture' category for Manar Mall, two awards in the 'Architecture Multiple Residence' and 'Golf Development' categories for its Al Hamra Village community development, and a sixth award in the 'Residential High-Rise Development' category for the Royal Breeze Residence.[27]
In 2016, the Waldorf Astoria in Ras Al Khaimah, was awarded 'Best Tourism and Leisure Project' of the year, while Bayti Homes was named 'Best Residential Property' of the year by the MEED Quality Awards for Projects.[28]
The Al Hamra Group of companies was pronounced 'Best Employer of the Year' in the GCC Best Employer Brand Awards 2016.[29] World Travel Awards named the Hilton Al Hamra Beach & Golf Resort the UAE's 'Leading Beach Resort' for 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2019.[30]
Al Hamra was 'Highly Commended' in the 'Best Asset Management Company of the Year' category at the Innovation in Construction & FM Awards 2020.[31]
In 2021, Benoy Kurien was listed at 22nd in Construction Weeks' List of Top 50 GCC Developers for the year[32] and was one of the Arab World category winners at the Forbes Middle East Real Estate Awards.[33][better source needed]
