Al O'Kane is a singer-songwriter from Somerset, UK. He has coined his genre of music "West Country Gumbo" – a mix of folk, rock and blues. His music has been described as a fiery acoustic blend and a call for action, likened to Jimi Hendrix, the Waterboys and Velvet Underground.[1]
Al writes songs with strong environmental and political messages, including "Losing it",[2] "Animals"[3] and "I want some peace", as well as acoustic romantic songs including "Skyrocket", "Better Place" and "Butterfly Mind".
Al released his self-titled album Al O'Kane in 2015 and released a further 3 singles in 2020.
Al has also been an independent local Town Councillor in Frome, Somerset, from 2015 to 2019. He wrote a song for his 2015 campaign, "I'm for Frome".[4]
