Alan Bates Stage hypnotist, past life regression practitioner and hypnotherapist (born in Wallasey Cheshire, England 5 October 1957). Bates is best known for his many TV shows in the UK and overseas but mainly in Malta where he is a household name. His autobiography Alan Bates Wide Awake was published with Amazon in July 2015. Confessions of a Hypnotist published in April 2016, True Ghost Stories published in 2017 and Trade Secrets also published in 2017.

He started his working life in an engineering apprenticeship but his interest in music led him to lead a double life in nightclubs and general entertaining in cabaret venues. On completion of his apprenticeship he was offered the position of casino manager with Carnival cruise lines based out of Miami and cruising the Caribbean islands. It was here that he discovered his true vocation in life, the ability to hypnotise people.

On his return to the UK in 1980 Bates embarked on an entertaining career and honed his skills to generate a comedy stage hypnosis show which still tours the world today. He has a fan base in India [1], Singapore, Bali, Sri Lanka [2] , Jakarta, Malta [3] [4] and Kuala Lumpur.

TV shows and guest appearances have included the Graham Norton Show, BBC Joan Bakewell Heart of the Matter, That’s Life Esther Rantzen, Up Front Granada TV, Saturday night Live with Brendon O’Connell RTE Ireland and UTV World Movies India. Bates regularly co-presents the popular TV show Xarabank on TVM Malta with Maltese TV celebrity Peppi Azzopardi.

During a theatre tour of Mumbai, India in 2011 Bates was filmed and elements of his show was broadcast throughout India on UTV World Movies and he claims to hold the world record for the most watched TV hypnotist.

Bates also presented the “Paranormal Experience show”, performed for many years around the UK theatres and the Benidorm Palace theatre in Benidorm, Spain with Derek Acorah from the successful TV series “Most Haunted”.

Bates is a UK qualified Hypnotherapist and in addition to his touring commitments regularly practises at a clinic in St Julian’s in Malta assisting people to overcome diversity, phobias, smoking cessation and weight loss programmes.[5]

Alan Bates has two younger brothers Gary and John. He is single and has five children Atlanta, Estelle, Jay, Keira and Amber. He is a qualified pilot and his hobbies include flying pilot in command, Scuba diving, historic documentaries and is an active member in English Freemasonry.
