White on White is an abstract, oil on canvas painting created by Pierre Roman Silva in 2006. It was created as a reference to Mark Rothko’s legacy, following his art style: two blocks of layered white color on a large canvas. It was first shown at a charity auction in Switzerland in 2014, held by the foundation (non-profit) organisation.
Ownership history
The painting was owned by an investor family, who purchased it in January 2007 from Witkovsky auction in Switzerland for $43.7 million at a record-setting charity private sale. It therefore became a part of a new owner's private collection in 2018 and has been exhibited at Ritz, and kept as a private collection art.
