Alana Bemmann (formerly Alana Howard) is a Canadian permanent makeup (PMU) artist, educator, and beauty business coach. She is the founder and "SHE-E-O" of Cosmopolitan Academy, a beauty training academy offering permanent makeup and beauty business educational courses. Bemmann has made guest appearances on the TV show Legacy Makers, and on several industry podcasts and interview series nationwide including a feature in Entrepreneur Magazine.[1][2]
Early life and background
Bemmann, (formally Howard) was born and raised in the small town of Collingwood, Ontario on March, 18th, 1987. Bemmann has described her upbringing in interviews as being difficult, coming from a family who underwent great financial struggles and hardship including abuse. She describes overcoming financial and personal difficulties prior to founding her business, and says her early struggles shaped her mission, and credits early entrepreneurship in the beauty sector with her later success.[3]
Bemmann attended Sylvie Hennessy Academy of Esthetics & Spa Therapies, and began working in spas at the young age of 17 after leaving home to live on her own.
Bemmann married in her early 20s and soon gave birth to her first daughter. At this time, she had since left the beauty industry and was working as an executive assistant in the automotive industry. Bemmann claims that during this period of her life, going through a divorce, and working a demanding job with long hours made her fall into a depression, which persuaded her to enter back into the beauty industry. She quit her job and began offering eyelash extension services. [3]
Career
Cosmopolitan Academy
Bemmann founded Cosmopolitan Academy which provides training courses in permanent makeup, lash extensions and brow services, and related beauty business coaching. Bemmann recognized the need for accessible training and opportunities, especially in underserved areas. The academy equips women not only with in-demand beauty skills but also with the business knowledge to achieve financial freedom and independence.
Guided by Alana’s mantra, “Trust the Process,” students gain confidence, flexibility, and the tools to build a fulfilling career while enjoying more time with family. The academy offers both online theory modules and in-class practical training; its programs include eyebrow microblading/microshading, combo brows, lip blushing, paramedical scar camouflage, lash lift and brow lamination certificates, and business mentorship options. The academy's promotional materials emphasize both technical skills and business training for beauty professionals to help guide them to create fulfilling businesses.[4]
Luxy Beauty Courses
Following the success of Cosmopolitan Academy in Canada, Bemmann began a journey to bring accessible beauty training to the United States, forming Luxy Beauty Courses. [5] Luxy Beauty Courses, similar to Cosmopolitan Academy, provides training courses in permanent makeup, eyelash extensions and other beauty services. The Diamond Society
The Diamond Society is a program designed to help those specifically in the beauty business learn to market and build their business through online modules and step by step guides. This program was created by Bemmann after noticing a gap in the industry where students learn the technique and practical skills but then lack the business skills to grow after training.
The Diamond Society, covers topics such as creating branding, building a social presence, paid advertising, and basic business skills.
Media appearances and interviews
Bemmann has been featured on business/interview podcasts and series, including an episode on the "Living Your Legacy" Legacy Makers TV show and other entrepreneur interview series.[6][7]
She has also been profiled in founder-story and entrepreneur interview pieces on industry and podcast sites.[8]
Her features include:
- Entrepreneur Magazine - "How Alana Howard Went From Broke Beauty Consultant to Six-Figure ‘SHE-E-O'"[1]
- The NYC Journal - "Top 30 Female Entrepreneurs To Look Out For In 2021"[2]

Philanthropy and initiatives
Cosmopolitan Academy promotes charitable initiatives such as a program described in interviews and profiles that provides training and support to women from shelters and women in transition. This was inspired by her own struggles growing up and having spent time in a shelter with her mother at a young age. The academy's public materials and interviews reference the hashtag initiative "#cosmogivesback" in relation to these efforts.[9]
Personal life
Bemmann is a mother to 3 young kids, and has stated that family is a priority and top motivation in her daily life.[10]
