Albert Aveline
Albert Aveline (1888–1968) was a French ballet dancer, choreographer and teacher. A major figure of the Paris Opera Ballet in the first half of the 20th century, he was director of the Paris Opera Ballet School between 1920 and 1956, jointly with Carlotta Zambelli until 1935. Although his ballets are no longer danced by the company, several have been revived in modern times by the school as a demonstration of the heritage of French ballet, especially his 1925 version of Les Deux Pigeons. In 1945, he arranged the company’s défilé (parade), a ceremony involving all dancers and students on the stage of the palais Garnier, which became a tradition organised at the opening of the season and on special occasions.
