Albert Wiederspiel

Albert Wiederspiel (* November 5 1960 in Warsaw, Poland) is the director of the Filmfest Hamburg since 2003.[1]

Childhood and youth[edit]

As a result of anti-Semitic riots in Poland in 1968, the family had to emigrate to Denmark in 1969 (March riots 1968 in Poland). Wiederspiel grew up in Copenhagen and studied Film Studies in Paris.

Life and Work[edit]

After his studies in 1985 he started as a trainee at 20th Century Fox Intl., from where he changed to 20th Century Fox of Germany as PR and Marketing Manager and worked there until 1995. From 1996 to 2000 he was Head of Marketing and finally General Manager - Theatrical at PolyGram Film Entertainment and Universal Pictures Germany.[2] Wiederspiel is a member of the European Film Academy and was named Chevalier de l'ordre des Arts et des Lettres in 2013. His contract as director of Filmfest Hamburg was extended for a further five years in 2018.

Albert Wiederspiel lives with his husband, the actor Gustav Peter Wöhler, in Hamburg and Berlin.
