Alberto Romero Herrera (1860 – 7 June 1917) was a Chilean lawyer and politician who served as a member of the Chamber of Deputies of Chile and as Minister of Justice and Public Instruction under President Juan Luis Sanfuentes.[1][2]
Early life
Romero was born in Valparaíso in 1860, the son of Juan Romero and Luisa Herrera Bustamante. He studied law at the University of Chile and qualified as a lawyer on 26 March 1881.[2]
He married Concepción Cordero, with whom he had children.[2]
Romero practiced law and subsequently held senior positions in Chilean financial institutions. He worked as secretary and legal counsel of the Caja de Crédito Hipotecario and was also a member of its governing council. In addition, he served on the governing body of the Caja Nacional de Ahorros.[2]
Political career
Romero served as a substitute deputy for Vichuquén during the 1885–1888 legislative term. In that capacity, he replaced the constituency's elected deputy, Uldaricio Prado, who didn't take his seat until 26 December 1885.[2]
He was again elected as a substitute deputy for Vichuquén for the 1888–1891 legislative term.[2]
Several decades after his parliamentary service, President Juan Luis Sanfuentes appointed Romero Herrera Minister of Justice and Public Instruction. He assumed office on 1 July 1916 and remained in the ministry until 20 November of that year.[2]
Romero died on 7 June 1917.[2]
