Aldo Alvarez (born August 19, 1982) is a Mexican technology entrepreneur,[1] known for founding the digital philanthropy website Aporta together with Facebook co-founder Eduardo Saverin.[2][3]
Aporta[edit]
In 2010, Alvarez was in New York City when Hurricane Alex hit ground in his native Monterrey, Mexico.[4] When he sought a way to send financial support to the people affected by the hurricane, he realized that there was no effective technology at the time in Mexico used by nonprofits that will allow them to fundraise and Interact with donors in a seamless way.[5] After sharing this issue with Facebook Co-founder Eduardo Saverin in 2011, they both decided to found the digital philanthropy website Aporta.[1][5][6]
Aporta allows the interaction between donors and nonprofits in Mexico. Alvarez work has resulted in more 200 nonprofits[7] using the Aporta platform to publish Institutional information, online fundraising campaigns, volunteer work opportunities and in kind donations needs.[8] Alvarez work on Aporta has also given donors in Mexico the opportunity to crowdfund for humanitarian emergency relief.[8] In 2013 Alvarez was able to secure financial backing from the National Entrepreneurship of Mexico to further the development of Aporta as a social impact project.[9][10]
Since the launch of the online website Aporta, Mexico's media outlets that have highlighted the work that Alvarez has been executing to support the development of the digital philanthropic ecosystem.[1][2][11] Forbes mentioned that Alvarez started the "First online philanthropic platform in Mexico".[6]

Alvarez grew up in Monterrey, Mexico[4] In 2005 he graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a Bachelor of Business Administration (B.B.A.) in finance and a minor in accounting.[12] Alvarez currently resides in New York City[4][5][10]
