Aleksandar Kostić is a New York City-based director, producer, cinematographer and screenwriter. Kostić was born in Belgrade, Serbia and trained as a filmmaker in Cyprus before moving to New York in 2001, where he continued with advanced film training at The New School. He has worked as producer and cinematographer for a number of major independent film projects, including the 2014 film Allure.
As a writer and director, Kostić has worked in diverse media, including short films, documentaries and video art installations. His films and installations revolved around the exploration of sense, memory and movement, through life and understanding how we touch or are touched by the larger world we passed through.
His work has screened at numerous film festivals, including the Tallinn Film Festival, Anthology Archive NY, Asheville Film Festival, Las Vegas Film Festival, Barcelona International Film Festival and Docufest Atlanta.[1] In 2012, he directed a film tribute to composer John Cage, which screened on opening night in Berlin as part of the MaerzMusik Festival, celebrating 100 anniversary of John Cage birth.[2] He has also contributed to a number of major art events, including a live performance piece that he conceptualized and directed entitled “Parallel Dreams”, which was presented at the Figment Festival[3] and subsequently developed into a short experimental film. In 2016, Kostic was part of "Film Projects & Talents from Serbia" at the Cannes Film Festival.[4] In 2015 the film “Parallel Dreams” won Best Experimental Short Film [5] at BANEFF.[6] In 2017 the film was selected to be screened as part of the Queen World Festival 2017 [7] at the Museum of the Moving Image.[8] Kostic began pre-production on his first feature film, a science fiction thriller entitled “Capio”, which is scheduled for release in 2017.
