Alertix is a Swedish-based veterinary diagnostic platform founded in 2017 by Bengt Åstrand, Anne-Charlotte Aronsson, and Staffan Eriksson. Alertix Veterinary Diagnostics is a research company that develops a unique test for diagnosing cell growth for veterinary oncology use.
Overview
Alertix develops a unique veterinary test to diagnose cell growth and cell disruption in dogs, cats, and horses. The test is also useful for decisions related to cancer treatments and may be used for screening companion animals at a certain age for early detection of malignant diseases. The Swedish biotech firm is based on longstanding research at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences in Uppsala, Sweden. Alertix has developed an immunodiagnostic method for detecting the enzyme thymidine kinase (TK1) in blood as a biomarker for cell growth and cell disruption. Alertix's method measures the amount of the enzymes with specifically developed antibodies and is well-suited for routine blood chemistry as well as point-of-care methods. The test provides a powerful tool for early diagnosis and monitoring cancer treatments in veterinary care. Funding
In 2019, Alertix raised $400,000 in a capital investment led by Swedish angel investors. They also received SEK 2.5 million in investment from the Swedish government through Almi Invest. [5][6][7] Alertix received grants for developing projects from the Swedish government. A 2019 application for a clinical oncology study in dogs was funded by Vinnova (Sweden’s innovation agency) Innovative Startups with approximately $30,000.
Awards
Alertix received the SKAPA prize, an award for innovation, from Governor Thomas Carlzon at a ceremony at his residence.[when?] Alertix also participated in the national innovation award in Sweden in November 2019.
