Alex Garant (born Alexandra Garant) is a French Canadian artist best known as one of the pioneers of Contemporary Glitch Art, within the New Contemporary Art movement.[3][4] Garant has established herself as one of the leaders of modern figurative optical art[5] by using patterns, duplication of elements, symmetry and image superposition as key elements of her imagery.[6][7][8] She is the daughter of french Canadian poet Lyne Richard.

Early life[edit]

Garant was born April 11, 1982, and grew up in Quebec City, Canada.[9] She received a College Diploma in Visual Arts from Notre-Dame-de-Foy in Québec, Canada, in 2001.[10][11] She studied Visual arts in college before spending a few years in the corporate world as a marketing manager and advertising executive.[12]

Career[edit]

Since graduating, Garant has participated in over 100 gallery and museum exhibitions around the world.[13][14] "Wakefulness" was Garant's first solo exhibition in the United States at Spoke Art Gallery in San Francisco, California.[15] "3am Rococo" was Garant's first solo exhibition taking place in Melbourne, Australia at Beinart Gallery.[16] Her first museum exhibition "Deconstructing Identities" took place in 2020 at the Lancaster Museum of Art and History in Lancaster, California.[17]

Garant's artwork has been featured in the publications Hi-fructose,[18] Juxtapoz,[19] Beautiful Bizarre,[20] American Art Collector[21] and on multiple online platforms including VICE,[22] The Huffington Post,[23] Buzzfeed[24] and many others.[25]

Personal Life[edit]

Garant decided to truly commit to her passion for art after suffering from a heart attack in 2012.[26]
