Alexander John Millmow is an Australian economic historian, journalist and former Treasury official. He is presently an adjunct researcher at Federation University Australia and had previously been associate professor (reader) for 16 years. Millmow is the current president of the History of Economic Thought Society of Australia (HETSA) and affiliated with the National Tertiary Education Union (NTEU).[1]

Millmow worked in the Treasury of Australia before undertaking doctoral studies at the Australian National University. He has been writing economic history papers since the 1980s. His thesis The Power of Economic Ideas: The origins of Keynesian macroeconomic management in interwar Australia 1929–39 was submitted in 2004 and was then published in a book in 2010.
He has appeared in the media on numerous occasions to discuss Australian economic history [2][3][4][5] and was a regular contributor to Fairfax newspapers for many years.[6][7] As one of Australia's leading Keynesian thinkers Millmow has often provided commentary during times of crisis, such as during the Global Financial Crisis 2008-10 and the economic crisis caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.
In 2020 on the 150th anniversary of the University's beginning he was listed as one of the institution's 150 most notable figures.[8]
