Alex Newport is a Grammy-nominated British music producer, mixer, engineer, musician and composer, based in Yucca Valley, CA. Newport started his music career playing in the UK grunge/noise rock band Fudge Tunnel[1] in 1989, producing two of the bands LPs before moving onto independent production work. In the mid 1990s he relocated to California and quickly became in demand as producer, helming seminal records for At The Drive-In (In/Casino/Out and Vaya, 1997), Knapsack (This Conversation Is Ending, 1998) and The Mars Volta (Tremulant, 2001).[2] In 2008, he was Grammy-nominated for his mixing work on Death Cab For Cutie's “Narrow Stairs”, and in 2011 he produced City And Colour's “Little Hell[3], which was recorded and mixed entirely on analog tape[4], as well as the follow up album “The Hurry And The Harm” (2013).

Newport produced Bloc Party's acclaimed 2012 album “Four[5], The SoundsWeekend” (2013), mixed Weaves debut album “Weaves” (2016), produced Brighton UK's Tigercub (“Abstract Figures In The Dark”, 2016[6] and “Evolve Or Die”, 2017), and produced Matt Costa's “Yellow Coat” (2020).[7]

He claims he prefers the sound of analog tape and vintage equipment and working methods rather than relying too heavily on digital recording.[8]

Newport has also composed original music scores for the movies “Interpreters” (2020) and its prequel “The Dresden Sun” (2023).

He continues to perform music with the project Red Love, with Bloc Party/Algiers musician Matt Tong – their debut album was released in 2017.[9]
