Alex Vaccaro
Alexander Vaccaro is the President of the Rothman Institute[1], a leading physician group affiliated with Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and a renowned orthopedic practice in the United States.[2]
Education
Vaccaro was educated at Boston College[3] and received his medical degree from Georgetown University[4]. He subsequently received an MBA from Temple Fox Online[5].
Career
Vaccaro was named President of the Rothman Institute in 2014[6][7], where he oversees the company's 200 physicians and 1,400 employees[8]. Following the death of Richard Rothman, the company's founder, Vaccaro continued in the President role.[9] He was a past president of the Cervical Spine Research Society and the American Spinal Injury Association[10], and currently serves as the team spine physician for the Philadelphia Eagles[11] [12].
Vaccaro has advocated for physician-led changes in orthopedics and spine surgery, emphasizing the role of outpatient surgery[13] as well as physician business education at MBA programs[14].
His views on physician burnout and Rothman's wellness initiative[15], as well as physician biotech consulting payments[16], have drawn attention from physicians and the Philadelphia community[17].
In 2020, Vaccaro played an active role in the COVID crisis in the Philadelphia area,[18] [19] [20] particularly regarding his views on virtual visits and telehealth[21] [22].
