Alexander Fettiplace
Alexander Fettiplace (1503–1564) was a wealthy English gentleman and landowner, primarily known for his family connections. He was a member of the prominent Fettiplace family of Swinbrook, Oxfordshire, and Berkshire.[1]
Career
Fettiplace is primarily remembered as a generous benefactor to his community, a legacy that endures to this day.[2] He established schools and almshouses in the village of Childrey. He was involved in the rebuilding of the tower and general reparation of Childrey Church, and founded a chantry there. He was a major benefactor of Queens College, Oxford.[3]
Personal life
Unlike his relatives who were politicians, Alexander lived as a quiet, private individual. He was content to manage his estates, which included large flocks of sheep and a farm at Letcombe Regis, rather than pursuing public office like other members of his family.
