Alexander John Hogg (known professionally as Alexander Hogg and to friends and family as Alex) is a British actor most well known for his work in the theatre industry who has worked extensively in the genre of musical theatre.[1]
According to his official Twitter profile, he was born on 6th April 2006.[2]
Hogg's Spotlight: The Home of Casting profile shows that he has been professionally active from the year 2017 - present.[3]
Early Life
Alex grew up in the Midlands and was interested in acting from an early age. It is said that he joined an acting school when he was four years old.[4]
Soon after this, Hogg is said to have joined Razzamataz Theatre schools. During his time there, he performed in annual shows such as Oliver! at The Birmingham Rep Theatre. Many of Alex's childhood years were spent learning, improving and enjoying himself at Razzamataz before he decided to make the leap into the professional world.
For Alex, school life involved balancing work with acting jobs as it was whilst he was in secondary school at Brownhills Ormiston Academy (known as Brownhills School at the time) when his acting career started to take off.[4]
Career
Alex is perhaps most well known for his appearance in the 2018 Christmas film directed by Debbie Isitt, Nativity ROCKS![5]
However, before making his screen acting debut Alex had appeared professionally on stage. His first ever professional role was in the Wolverhampton Grand's in-house production of the stage adaptation of Brassed Off.[6]
It was after this that Hogg broke into the world of musical theatre when he starred as Ollie[7] (a principal role in the St Bernadette's class) in Nativity! The Musical.[8] It was when working on this show that Alex encountered Isitt for the first time before working on the film mentioned above. Alex first played Ollie in the original 2017 touring and Hammersmith Apollo production of the show.[9] It was clear from online reviews at the time that Alex was a hit with audiences up and down the country. Subsequently, Alex reprised his leading role in the 2018 and 2019 productions of the show.[9] This is evident from this TheBestOfWalsall article about the Nativity! star. (shorturl.at/qzGM3) As well as being on stage as a part of the original production, Alex's voice can also be heard on the Nativity! The Musical Original Cast Recording, which is available on all major music streaming services. In order to promote Nativity!, Alex made one of his first appearances on national television. He appeared as Ollie in the 2018 Christmas special of the CBBC programme Sam & Mark's Big Friday Wind-Up.[10]
After the first year of Nativity!, Alex joined the cast of Kilworth House's production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.
At the same time as rehearsing for Joseph, Alex signed up to return to The Wolverhampton Grand and he appeared in Ladies' Day alongside Tony Christie (whose music is used in the show) and EastEnders star Cheryl Fergison at the theatre later that year.[4]
Soon after this, Alex returned to Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat but this time for The Birmingham Hippodrome run of the touring production.
Alex's next professional venture would take him back to screen acting. However, this time he would be acting in a commercial. This job saw Alex flown out to Belgium to film for AXA Insurance.
A more in-depth look at Alexander's work is available on his profile on Spotlight: The Home of Casting.
