Biography
Alexander Scheer attended the East Berlin Georg Friedrich Handel Gymnasium, focusing on music. Besides singing, he played piano and drums in various bands. He left school after the 11th grade and pursued other professional activities. During this time, he also worked as a performer in product advertising and made amateur films with friends. He was discovered by director Leander Haußmann during a casting call, who cast him in his film Sonnenallee. After filming, Scheer joined the Schauspielhaus Bochum. There, he performed in plays such as Much Ado About Nothing, Leonce and Lena, and The Tempest. He subsequently worked with directors such as Christoph Marthaler, Frank Castorf, and Stefan Pucher, appearing in productions like "Berlin Alexanderplatz" and "The Idiot" at the Volksbühne Berlin, and "The Seagull" at the Schauspielhaus in Hamburg. For his acting, he was awarded the Ulrich Wildgruber Prize. For portraying the English Shakespearean actor Edmund Kean in Frank Castorf's 2009 stage production of the same name, Alexander Scheer was voted Actor of the Year by Theater Heute. In addition to his theatrical work, he has appeared in national and international films such as Viktor Vogel – Commercial Man, The Wild Life, Mrs. Ratcliffe's Revolution, and Carlos – The Jackal, which premiered successfully at the 2010 Cannes Film Festival. To prepare for portraying Keith Richards in the film The Wild Life, Scheer formed the band The Rockboys, which played numerous summer concerts. In 2007, he joined Jan Opoczynski's band The International Competition as a guitarist. The following year, he was the frontman of the Vienna band Gruppe Pegel. In 2009, he toured Europe as a percussionist with The Whitest Boy Alive. In 2012, he played Mephisto in Goethe's tragedy Faust I. In Andreas Dresens' biopic Gundermann about the East German singer-songwriter, rock musician, and excavator leader Gerhard Gundermann, Scheer played the title role.
