Biography[edit]

He supported the Prince of Tver Mikhail Yaroslavich in his fight with the Prince of Moscow Yuri Danilovich. Then he became an ally of Ivan Danilovich Kalita. He took part in the punitive campaign organized by the latter against Tver, where the anti-Tatar uprising broke out (1327). As a result, it was Alexander Vasilyevich, obviously specifically as a weak prince, who was given a label by Khan Uzbek to Vladimir and “Volga region” (probably Nizhny Novgorod and Gorodets ), and behind Ivan Kalita he left the second half of the great reign - Kostroma and Veliky Novgorod. However, this step did not lead to the strengthening of the uninfluential Suzdal Principality (unlike a similar situation a decade later), but “the foundation of claims to the grand ducal title of the Nizhny Novgorod-Suzdal princes” was laid[1]. The real role in all-Russian affairs remained with Ivan Kalita. The Moscow chronicles do not even mention Alexander, and the Novgorod chronicles (the main source of information) do not call him great.
