Alexandre Garese (born in 1968) is a lawyer and investor; the founder of the Luxembourg-based renewable energy investment company Kouros,[1] the United Arab Emirates-based investment fund Agartha Fund,[2] the chain of Wolkonsky bakery cafés in Russia and Ukraine,[3] and the business club Kelia in downtown Moscow.[4]

Early life and career

Alexandre Garese was born in 1968 in France. He moved to Moscow in the 1990s, where he set up in business as a founder of a law firm, now known as Garese & Partners, whose clients included several reputable companies.[5]

Garese received a master's degree in business and international law from the Sorbonne Paris (1991) as well as a DEA in international law and a DESS in international business law (1993).

In the 2000s, he held senior positions in various companies, including VS Energy, a Ukrainian major utility.[6]

Garese and his wife opened the first Wolkonsky in 2005. The bakery chain currently includes more than 60 locations in five cities. Kuznya, a restaurant on New Holland Island in Saint Petersburg, is also among his gastronomy projects.[7]

In 2007, he founded the Kovcheg-Wolkonsky school for special needs students. The school includes a training center where the children study and train to be confectioners and get help being fully integrated into society. After graduating, some of them are offered positions at Wolkonsky production facilities.[8][9]

Garese has been a member of the Moscow Region and Paris Bar Associations since 2010 and 2014, respectively.

Alexandre Garese and Gil Feiler are the co-authors of the book Investing in Russia, Ukraine, Latvia, Lithuania and Kazakhstan (2007) for businesspeople and entrepreneurs.

Garese is the founder of the Russian-based publishing boutique Book Nets.[10]

His business interests include investing in commercial real estate, digital technology, restaurant projects, and agribusiness.

Public activities

Garese is involved with the Young Presidents' Organization, working to enable up-and-coming businesspeople from different countries to establish business ties, share experience, and become successful.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Alexandre's restaurants provided support to healthcare workers fighting to stop the spread of the virus in Moscow[11] and Saint Petersburg.[12]

Hobbies

Alexandre Garese owns a large collection of works by the famous Soviet artistic collaboration Kukryniksy. Having more than 1,000 works in his collection, he says that after some restoration they will be exhibited in a gallery.

His hobbies also include yoga and participation in polo tournaments.[13]
