Alexandre Antônio Lopes, better known as Alexandre Lopes or simply Alemão (born January 27, 1963) is a Brazilian businessman and executive producer from Porto Alegre.

Biography[edit]

Alexandre Lopes is a Brazilian businessperson and film producer, co-owner and responsible for the management of three major concert venues (Pepsi on Stage, Araujo Vianna Auditorium.[1], and Bar Opinião[2]) in Porto Alegre, Brazil. Alemão is also known for being the executive producer of the movie “The Before Time” filmed in Los Angeles.

Early Life[edit]

Alexandre or Alemão was born in Porto Alegre in 1963 and he grew up in the Cidade Baixa neighborhood. He was a former Civil Engineering student at PUC-RS. Together with two other classmates, Alemão founded Opinão as a bar for university students to get together and listen to music in 1983[3]

Bar Opinião[edit]

Opened in October, 1983 and guided by Alexandre Lopes' entrepreneurial spirit, Bar Opinião has placed the State of Rio Grande do Sul on the map for great international concerts. Metallica[4], Red Hot Chili Peppers[5], Bob Dylan[6], Iron Maiden[7], and Eric Clapton[8] were some of the worldwide consolidated artists who performed in the state capital and whose concerts were produced by Alexandre Lopes.

Pepsi on Stage[edit]

Alexandre Lopes' leadership in the cultural scene of Rio Grande do Sul had another chapter in 2006, with the opening of Pepsi on Stage in Porto Alegre[9]. The arena, which can hold up to 6 thousand people standing[10], soon became a new reference for national and international artists who come to perform in the city. Several major names, such as Bob Dylan[11], Tears for Fears[12], Maná[13], Queens of the Stone Age[14], Ben Harper[15], Joss Stone[16], Faith No More[17], Akon[18], Caetano Veloso[19], Joe Cooker[20], and Chuck Berry[21] have performed there.

Araújo Vianna Auditorium[edit]

In December 2019, Alexandre Lopes and the Opinião team were given the rights to manage the Araújo Vianna Auditorium[22]. The company was responsible for investing in the renovation of the auditorium and its management for over a decade.

International Awards[edit]

During the World Cup of 1998 Alexandre Lopes and his company Opinião Produtora were responsible for organizing an event at Sanary-sur-Mer in France[23]. The event was a collaboration with Brahma beer and Sanary's city hall. The festival received the name of Brahma Brasil Festival Sud à Sul.
