Alexandria State Recreation Area (SRA) is a state park in southeastern Nebraska, United States. The recreation area is located along the Big Sandy Creek, approximately 4.5 miles (7.2 km) south of Alexandria, or about 14 miles (23 km) northwest of Fairbury. The recreation area is managed by the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission.

Camping
Camping is available year-round and is first-come, first-served. The park has 40 grass pad sites with 30-amp electrical hookups, five sites with 50-amp electrical hookups, and nine sites with no electrical hookups.[1] A sewage dump station is available.
Fishing
The two lakes located at the park contain catchable sized Largemouth Bass, Bluegill, Common Carp, Channel Catfish, Crappie, and Redear Sunfish.[1]
Boating
Both the east and west lakes are no wake lakes. There are no docks or ramps present for public use. Boating is allowed, but is restricted to electric or non-powered watercraft only.[2]
Picnicking
Throughout the park there are 51 grills and 57 picnic tables. In addition, there are three covered shelters.[2]
History
The Nebraska Game, Forestation and Parks Commission (now the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission) purchased 40 acres (16 ha) in 1930. At this time, there were no lakes present, only a spring-fed marsh. Three terraced lakes were created by building a dike system to capture the spring water, with the park opening in 1933.[3] In 1942, the lakes were drained, one dike removed, and the others raised to create two deeper lakes.
In 1949, the Commission purchased another 55 acres (22 ha) as an expansion to build a third lake. This was the largest of the lakes, bringing the total water acreage to 43 acres (17 ha). Again in 1996, the two east lakes were joined by the removal of a portion of the separating dike. As of 2026, the park remains with two lakes.[3]
