Alexandros Katigoudis (born on November 13th, 1981), known as al3X! is a Greek American abstract artist who was born in Houston, Texas.[1].
Biography[edit]
He currently resides in Athens, Greece[2] although has spent many years living in Glasgow, UK, Houston, TX, Seattle, WA and Miami, FL. His first attempt at art was in the early ’80s when, as an elementary student, he was asked to paint his school wall. In the years that followed, his interests grew and he began to draw inspiration from abstract sounds and popular visuals. He lists the main influence on his art as a need to comprehend and outline human relationships and interactions, as well as social challenges and their impact[2]. al3X! predominantly works with acrylics, sprays and markers on canvas and wood [2], with an emphasis on the use of lines and shapes, showing influence from graphic design and street art. His list of influences includes pop art culture, street art, Futura 2000, V. Kandinsky, G. Richter, and others[3]. Media attention has included features in magazines, on websites[3] [4] [5] and radio[1] including his most recent interview with AXIA newspaper[6].
Notable works and collaborations[edit]
During a residency in Miami, Florida from 2018 until 2020, he participated in Art Basel 2018 & 2019 where his art was hosted by Stellar Cutz Barbershop & Art Gallery and Sculpted Studios[3]. His art was also selected for the Mxrkt’s new clothing line in the Wynwood art district[3]. In 2020, he launched his first solo exhibition in Greece, entitled "The Home Show", which draws inspiration from his travels around the world[7]. In addition, he has exhibited his work in the online exhibition "The Inside Body", as well as participated in the group exhibition: "Paros: Blue of the Aegean 2020"[8]. Collaborations include artwork for the album "Orange Sky", which was shown at the Debebe Galerie, and work with nevronas.gr to design a range merchandise where profits were used to support people with disabilities[9]. al3X! is currently exhibiting at Stellar Cutz Barbershop & Art Gallery, Wynwood Florida[1], The Home Show: Past, Present, Future at Barrett, Athens Greece and Time and Tide at Gallerya 118[10]
