Alexandru Paraschiv (born 26 August 1999) is a Moldovan professional boxer. As an amateur, he has competed in the lightweight, light welterweight and welterweight division and is a two-time medalist at the European Amateur Boxing Championships and a bronze medalist at the IBA Men's World Boxing Championships.
Amateur career
In March 2019, Paraschiv competed at the European Youth Championships in the 64 kg category, where he lost to Alan Abaev of Russia in the semi-finals on points (1:4), the latter in whom ultimately became the 2019 European Youth U22 Champion.[2] In September 2019, he competed in the World Championships in Yekaterinburg, Russia, in the light welterweight competition, where in the 1/32 finals of the competition, he defeated Jordanian Obada Al-Kasbeh by disqualification in the 2nd round,[3] but in the round of 16, he lost to Russian boxer Ilya Popov by unanimous decision.[4]
In March 2020, Paraschiv competed in the European Olympic Qualifying Tournament in the lightweight category, where he defeated Michal Takács of Slovakia on points (5:0).[5] But by then, the COVID-19 pandemic began, leading to a strict coronavirus quarantine in the UK and throughout Europe, and a lack of competitive practice. Then in June 2021, in the quarterfinals, he lost to Sofiane Oumiha of France.[6]
In February 2021, Paraschiv won the silver medal in the 63 kg weight class at the prestigious Strandzha Cup held in Sofia, Bulgaria, where he again lost to Popov in the final.[7]
In May 2022, he won a bronze medal at the European Championships in Yerevan, in the welterweight category.[8] He had defeated Damian Durkacz[9] in the quarterfinals by a majority decision, but lost to Vahid Abasov of Serbia by unanimous decision (0:5) in the semifinals, the latter in whom ultimately became the 2022 European Champion.[10][11]
Paraschiv competed at the 2024 European Amateur Boxing Championships in the light welterweight event, where he reached the final and won the silver medal following his loss to Gabil Mamedov in the gold medal match.[12][13]
Paraschiv competed in the welterweight category at the 2025 IBA Men's World Boxing Championships in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. He reached the semi-final and lost to Asadkhuja Muydinkhujaev by unanimous decision, winning a bronze medal.[14][15]
