Ali Baba’s Mournful Night is a novel by the Iraqi novelist Abdel Khaliq al-Rikabi[1] and got published by Dar Adnan Publications, specifically in Baghdad, year 2013. Next, by the Arab Institute for Studies and Publishing in Beirut. Moreover, it was longlisted for the International Prize for Arabic Fiction, known as the Arab Booker Prize, year 2014.[2]

About the novel[edit]

Abdel Khaliq Al-Rikabi discusses a story about the (Historical Imagination) in Iraq especially in modern era. In 2003, US occupation would be a starting point for overthrowing historical and social events which was during Othman, British, and American eras throughout the twentieth century until today. In addition, it presents characters that symbolizes the years of general killing as well as the Mesopotamia identity. Moreover, other characters that accompanied and climbed on the tanks of US occupation. Also, it practiced techniques of murder, revenge, corruption, and deception to dominate the Iraqi scene. Abdel Khaliq impute what occurred in Iraq from racism, denominationalism, religious, ideology to the US occupation which blew up all the situation.[3]
