Ali El Tounsi (born 1966) is a Moroccan former long-distance runner. He competed in the men's marathon at the 1996 Summer Olympics.[1]
Career
El Tounsi finished 34th in the 1994 London Marathon, running 2:18:21 hours.[1] He placed behind Mark Croasdale and ahead of teammate Abderrahim Ben Redouane as the first Moroccan finisher. At the 1994 Lille Marathon, he placed 9th in 2:19:55.[2] The following year, he was 11th at the Marrakech Marathon with a 2:16:57 time.[3]
In January 1996, El Tounsi placed 9th at the following year's Marrakech Marathon in a personal best time of 2:13:21.[4] Later that year, he represented Morocco at the 1996 Olympic marathon, where he finished 98th in 2:36:01.[4] He later finished 11th at the 1996 Venice Marathon, winning US$490 in prize money with a 2:18:27 time.[3]
El Tounsi recorded a career best 5th-place finish at the 1997 Marrakech Marathon, running 2:17:54.[3] Later in 1997, El Tounsi placed 14th at the Rome Marathon. He ran a time of 2:19:06 and won US$185.[4]
