Ali Kotoko is a politician from Maiduguri in Borno State.
Background and education
Ali Kotoko was born in Mafoni ward of Maiduguri Metropolitan on Saturday, 30th June, 1973 to the family of Islamic scholar Goni Bukar Tada Gana. He attended Ali Yaskiri Primary School, Maiduguri from 1979 to 1985 and proceeded to Yerwa Government Secondary School, Maiduguri in 1986 and completed at the Government Secondary School, New Marte in 1992. He joined Ramat Polytechnic, Maiduguri in 2003 and obtained a National Diploma in Business Management and Administration with Lower Credit in 2005.
Kotoko obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration with specialization in Capital Market in 2012, a Post Graduate Diploma in Political Science and Administration in 2017 and is currently undergoing a Master's degree in International Relations all at the University of Maiduguri.[1]
Political career
Kotoko was elected as Councilor, Mafoni Ward of Maiduguri Metropolitan Council from 1996 to 1998, where he chaired Committees on Revenue Generation and that of Project Monitoring.
In 2001, Kotoko took up an appointment as Clerical Assistant, Operations Department of the Zenith Bank Plc and relinquished it in 2011.
When his mentor, Senator Kashim Shettima was overwhelmingly elected as the 6th Executive Governor of Borno State in April, 2011, he appointed Kotoko as his personal assistant, a job he held for eight consecutive years.
Having acquired administrative and political experience working directly with the Governor, Kotoko contested and won the House of Assembly seat to represent the Maiduguri Metropolitan State Constituency and was inaugurated as a member of the 9th Assembly on 13th June, 2019.[2][3]
He chairs the House Committee on Poverty Alleviation as well as being a member of the House Committees on Universal Basic Education (UBE), Special Duties, Special Intervention and Ad-hoc Committee on Bureau of Public Procurement Bill, 2019.[4][circular reference]
