Muhammad Ali (known as Ali Tariq, born 2 February 1999 [age 21]) is a young Pakistani playback singer, song-writer and composer who came into recognition following Nescafe Basement Season 5 remake of Haroon Rashid's 2002 hit single Mehbooba. He also recorded tracks for Pakistani films Wrong No 2 and Parey Hut Love.
Early Life[edit]
Ali was born on 2 February 1999 (age 21) in Karachi, Pakistan and is the younger of the two siblings. After completing his A levels in 2018, he went on to study Business from College of Business Management (Institute of Business Management) Karachi but soon dropped out due to schedule conflicts and work demands. Ali states that he plans on continuing his education but this time in music.
Career[edit]
Ali had no formal training in music. He bought his first guitar when he was 11 and taught himself. He began his career as a guitarist playing for different local bands; and later tried his hand at vocals, recording a few medleys which received an encouraging response from the listeners. He was working as a guitarist with music director Ahsan Ali Taj when Taj offered him the original soundtrack of a Pakistani drama Aatish (HUM TV) (2018). The track quickly crossed a million views on SoundCloud. He went on to record OST for drama serials Bharam (HUM TV) (2019), Ruswai (ARY Digital) (2019) and Log Kya Kahenge (ARY Digital) (2020).
Ali auditioned for Nescafe Basement Season 5 and was selected by music producer Xulfi. The track Mehbooba, which is a remake of Haroon Rashid's 2002 hit single, was released as part of said Television music series' first episode and became an instant success,[1] garnering millions of views on YouTube, and brought the singer into limelight. The original vocalist Haroon also "loved" the rendition of his song, calling it an "intricate, polished and huge sounding production".[2]
Ali made his playback debut with the romantic track Tu Hi Har Rang Main for Pakistani film Wrong No 2. While working on the previous project, he was roped in by film director Asim Raza and music director Azaan Sami Khan for the soundtrack of Pakistani film Parey Hut Love.[3] The romantic number Behka Na, co-sung by an Indian singer Harshdeep Kaur, was praised for its "soulful" melody.[4]
Ali has also released his debut single titled Ik Raaz Ki Baat and is currently working on his debut album. He cites Atif Aslam, KK, Arjit Singh and Kishore Kumar as his inspirations.
