Alice Vaughan, is a fictional character portrayed by Mireille Enos, created by Kate Atkinson, Helen Gregory and Jennifer Schuur for the drama and action television series The Catch. She works for Anderson/Vaughan Investigations as a Private Investigator, she was engaged to her boyfriend Benjamin Jones. She is about to have a wedding, for which she is nervous and happy for.[1]

Background[edit]

Alice is a private investigator working with her co-workers and friends Sophie, Valerie, and Danny. She was engaged to her boyfriend Benjamin Jones. She is about to have a wedding, for which she is nervous and happy for.

However, her fiancé is working for Margot Bishop, who tells him they have to leave now. It's revealed that Ben was only close with her to get information on her clients. The next morning, Ben asks Ali to run away with him to another country. She brushes it off as a joke and goes to work. However, when she comes back when she forgets something, she finds that all of Benjamin's belongings are gone. Heartbroken, she rushes to his office, finding everything gone from there too.

Agent Dao blames Alice but apologizes and Alice forgives him. Benjamin contacts again and asks Alice to meet him. However; he sees Agent Dao in his car and calls Alice and leaves, she tells him she didn't call him. When she gets home the next day, he calls to tell her that Agent Dao is bugged her door to spy on what she's saying. He gives her another phone.

Development[edit]

Vaughan's character received an overhaul after the pilot episode: instead of a Chicago-based auditor, she became a Los Angeles-based private investigator. She also became sexier: instead of being a "very guarded, lacquered ’50s-era Hitchcock presence," Vaughan became "peppier, a life-lover with mascaraed lashes and a closet filled with Bond girl minidresses."[2] Her style is a "modernised look of the 1960's."[3]
