Alice X. Zhang

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Alice X. Zhang (born 1988) is an American fine artist and illustrator. Her work has been described as wildly colorful and dynamic, drawing inspiration from literature, cinema, and television.[1] She is known for her dramatic portraiture of pop culture figures and her social media presence.[2]

Education and early career[edit]

Zhang is a graduate the Rhode Island School of Design, having majored in graphic design. Though she enjoyed art, art school was not the right fit. Zhang began learning digital painting on her own, creating mostly fan-art that she shared online.[3] Through posting on Tumblr, she gained popularity and exposure. This led to officially licensed work for the BBC show Sherlock and subsequently other popular shows such as Doctor Who.[4]

Career[edit]

As Zhang's popularity as an illustrator grew, she was selected to do official art for Titan Comics, Marvel, DC, and the Star Wars franchise (Lucasfilms).[4] She is the illustrator for Marvel's book "Powers of a Girl" as well as numerous Doctor Who comics.[5] Zhang has presented her work in solo galleries at the Bottleneck Gallery in Brooklyn, New York and continues to sell independent art directly to fans.[6] She is a regular at New York Comic Con and San Diego Comic Con.[3][4]
