Allison (Ally) Boucher Krebs, M.Ed (1951-2013) was an Anishinaabe archivist, activist and information professional.

Early Life[edit]

Boucher Krebs was born in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan and founded the Freeport halfway home while still a high school student.[1]. She was also among one of the first women undergraduates ever admitted to Yale University[2]. She is the great-great granddaughter of Chief John Boucher, known as “the Rapids Pilot"[3]

Education[edit]

She held an undergraduate degree from Yale University (1973) and later completed her Masters in Educational Technology in the University of Arizona's Knowledge River program.[3]. At the time of her passing, she was completing her Ph.D. in Indigenous Information Ecology at the University of Washington[3]

Professional Activities[edit]

As an archivist and activist, Boucher Krebs was a leader in Indigenous Knowledge and archival work, participating in Indigenous information services conferences around the world in Australia, New Zealand and Canada.[1]. She was active on various groups and committees, including as the Chair of the Society of American Archivists Native American Archives Roundtable and on the Advisory Board of the Association of Tribal Archives, Libraries, and Museums[1]. She was also an active participant in the Archival Education and Research Institute (AERI)[1]
