She completed her medical education at Albert Einstein College of Medicine and residency in pediatrics at Boston Children's Hospital through the Boston Combined Residency Program (BCRP). She then completed a fellowship in Pediatric Hematology/Oncology through a partnership between Boston Children's Hospital and Dana-Farber. O'Neill joined the faculty at Dana-Farber in July 2011 where she currently serves as a Pediatric Hematology/Oncology attending physician. O'Neill's research interests include both clinical and pre-clinical topics. Her recent projects focus on increasing sensitivity of imaging to aid in diagnosis of pediatric hepatic and other solid tumor malignancies.[4][5] In particular, her current work is aimed at the creation of a humanized antibody with specificity towards sarcoma cell surface proteins. She is also developing an international liver tumor protocol that will serve as a guideline for the diagnosis, classification, and treatment of pediatric liver tumors.[1][6] O'Neill has received several grants.[7][8][9]

O'Neill is an active supporter of the Jimmy Fund.[10][11][12][13]
