Alpha Theta Beta Sorority, also known as AOB, was founded on November 17, 1936, thus making it the oldest fraternal organization existing on Hofstra's campus. Teddy Langlotz, then the editor of The Hofstra Chronicle wielded the power of the press and persuaded the administration to accept their constitution in 1938. The other three founders were Frances Barnes, Eugenia Crawford, and Kay G. Knoll. Through the initiative of AOB's charter members, the necessity for inter-fraternal government was recognized, and consequently the Inter-Sorority Council at Hofstra University came into existence.[1] The sorority is one of the very few local organizations who are associated with the Panhellenic council, while not national.
