Alsager Town Council is the town council serving the town and civil parish of Alsager and was established in 1974 to replace the Alsager Urban District Council.

2 May 2019[edit]
The council had 12th election on 2 May 2019, the same day as the 2019 United Kingdom local elections in England and Northern Ireland, which included elections to Cheshire East Council. The Conservatives lost control of Cheshire East Council for the first time.[1]
Alsager was a highly contested ward between the Liberal Democrats, Conservatives and Labour. The election to Town Council resulted in no one party having control with the Liberal Democrats losing their majority on the Town Council for the first time in decades.
Alsager Central Ward[edit]
Julian Goodrich, Jane Hearne, Sue Helliwell and Pauline Hubbard were elected. The Conservatives did well in this ward and got some of their first town councillors elected for years.

Alsager East Ward[edit]
The first time a full election had been triggered in Alsager East Ward since 1995. The ward elects 6 councillors and normally no more than 6 candidates stand but 7 candidates stood in 2019. June Buckley, Jo Dale, Julia Hawkins, Derek Hough, Alison Nayling and Michael Unett were elected. Martin Deakin lost out by one vote - Deakin had never stood for the Town Council before but had been one of the incumbent councillors on Cheshire East Council for Alsager before the 2019 Local Elections.

The Liberal Democrats dominated the results of this ward along with the election of the first elected representative from the Animal Welfare Party. Rod Fletcher, Ron Tyson, Phil Williams and Jane Smith were elected.

12th January 2017 - By-election[edit]
A vacancy occurred in East Ward after the resignation of a longstanding councillor. A by-election was triggered to fill the vacancy and was the first election to be held in the ward for Town Council since 1995. The by-election campaign took place over the Christmas and New Year period in December 2016. The Liberal Democrat candidate, Carrie Pletscher, won the election. However, Labour's candidate achieved the best vote share for any Labour candidate in a local election in the town since 1996.
