Altus began in January 1996 in Ohio. [1] Founder Brian K. Gaiser launched the company in order to provide integration and installation services to Cleveland area businesses. Within the first year, Altus began providing technical support staff to Cleveland Clinic Akron General.

The company name and word mark were registered from the US Patent Trademark office in 1997.[2]

In the next few years, Altus continued to grow and solved the largest IT computer virus at a major US Bank. 300 servers and 10,000 workstations were infected. Altus partnered with IBM to solve this virus problem. Altus became an IBM and Dell EMC Business parter.

In 1998 Altus with IBM performed the first process and phase driven data center relocation and invented the "Three Phase Approach" to relocations. This gave rise to "The Altus Method" [3] for data center migrations.

Altus [4] maintained a Product Division and a Services Division. Products included Firewall Hardware and Software, Imaging Software and Network performance monitoring systems.

Altus became a reseller of the IBM pSeries (RS/6000) processor and storage devices.

In 2004 Altus focused purely on services. Altus continues to provide data center services.
